The Continued Rise of the South (and West)

It was rather depressing if you look at the box scores from the SEC football games this holiday bowl and playoff season (my Missouri Tigers did very well).  New Year's Day was maybe one of the worst days in the history of the Deep South - ranking with Lee surrendering to Grant at Appomattox.  This was particularly upsetting to Bama fans because Ohio is the state that gave birth to both Grant and Sherman!

But the south is actually rising in terms of population while the Midwest continues its long history of population decline.  No one is actually moving to Ohio - except for Florida high school football linemen and running backs and even they don't stay unless drafted by the Browns or Bengals. Ohio is in the bottom 10 in terms of domestic population migration.
