Sustaining Growth Via Water Productivity

This is an interesting report from Veolia and the International Food Policy Research Institute - - Sustaining growth via water productivity: 2030/2050 scenarios.  The report asks two core questions in the context of water and growth futures:
  • What are the growth levels that can be sustained given today's water productivity?
  • To what extent can gains in efficiency and water productivity (output per drop) enable higher levels of growth?
When demand pressures (e.g., direct population growth, economic growth, and climate) combine with supply pressures (e.g., spatial/temporal mismatch. a more expensive supply curve to transport water, continued water quality deterioration, and climate change pressures), look for a world with greater water stress and risks to overall growth.
